ATSA vs FEAST vs NAV CANADA: Which ATC Test Applies?
ATSA, FEAST and NAV CANADA are different air traffic controller selection systems. They overlap in abilities such as attention, memory, spatial reasoning and multitasking, but they belong to different employers, countries and hiring processes.
The fastest way to choose the correct preparation is to identify the employer first:
- FAA applicant in the United States: ATSA;
- applicant to a confirmed FEAST user: the FEAST modules named by that organization;
- NAV CANADA applicant: the current NAV CANADA Workday and assessment process.
NATS is a separate United Kingdom pathway and should not be treated as automatically identical to any of the three.

ATSA
ATSA is used for many FAA entry-level controller pathways.
Current public guidance describes:
- an in-person computer-based assessment;
- Pearson VUE delivery;
- approximately 3.5 hours;
- aptitude rather than operational-controller knowledge;
- FAA-controlled result categories; and
- later medical, security, Academy and facility-certification stages.
ATSA preparation should focus on the FAA pathway rather than FEAST work samples or NAV CANADA candidate reports.

FEAST
FEAST is a modular battery developed by EUROCONTROL.
A participating organization can select:
- FEAST I cognitive tests;
- English listening/comprehension;
- FEAST II RADAR or MULTI-PASS work samples;
- FEAST III personality questionnaire; and
- additional employer-specific stages.
There is no universal FEAST cut score or retest policy. EUROCONTROL provides a free official training platform, which should be the first practice resource.

NAV CANADA
NAV CANADA uses an employer-specific Canadian pathway.
Current public information describes:
- Workday application;
- an online assessment of approximately 30 minutes;
- regional in-person testing of approximately six hours;
- pre-screening interview;
- assessment centre;
- language testing when required;
- medical and security conditions; and
- paid training for selected candidates.
Candidates should not assume that the online or in-person stages are standard ATSA or FEAST administrations.

Where NATS Fits
NATS is a United Kingdom employer with its own campaign design.
A NATS process can use online aptitude, work-style, interview and assessment-center stages, but candidates must follow the current NATS invitation. Commercial software may include FEAST-related or Aon/cut-e-style tasks without making the NATS process identical to the complete FEAST battery.

Major Differences
Employer and employment law
FAA candidates enter a U.S. federal process. FEAST candidates apply to the participating organization. NAV CANADA candidates enter a Canadian employer process.
Citizenship, work authorization, age, education and language rules differ.
Delivery
ATSA is currently delivered in person through Pearson VUE. FEAST delivery is controlled by the user organization. NAV CANADA begins with an online assessment and can progress to regional testing.
Scoring
FAA campaigns define ATSA result categories. FEAST users set their own cut scores and ranking. NAV CANADA controls advancement without publishing one transferable universal score.
Retesting
Retesting and waiting periods are employer specific. A rule from one pathway should never be transferred to another.
Medical standards
FAA, European organizations and NAV CANADA use different medical authorities and standards. Passing aptitude does not guarantee medical qualification.
Training
Each employer controls training length, location, pay, progression and operational qualification.
